King Joffrey doles out rewards to his subjects, setting Sansa aside to marry Margaery Tyrell and ally with her family. Melisandre comforts a defeated Stannis by showing him his future glory in the flames. Brienne silences Jaime, killing Stark soldiers after they recognize him. Against Catelyn's advice, Robb marries Talisa, breaking his promise to wed Walder Frey's daughter. In Qarth, Daenerys goes to a strange place: inside the House of the Undying she passes through a simulacrum of a destroyed throne room and an illusion of Khal Drogo and their infant son, then retrieves her dragons, who burn the House to the ground, killing Pyat. She seals Xaro and her traitorous servant Doreah inside his empty vault, claims his wealth and purchases a ship to leave Qarth.
As Theon stirs his men to action, they betray him and hand him over to the besieging northmen in exchange for passage home, and Winterfell is torched; the fatally wounded Maester Luwin offers some final advice, convincing Osha to take Bran and Rickon to the Wall to seek Jon's protection. After the escape from Harrenhal, Jaqen gives Arya a coin he says can be used to find him in Braavos, magically changing his face before he departs. North of the Wall, Jon proves himself to Qhorin, who forces Jon to kill him so that Jon can pretend to join the wildlings and spy on them. An army of White Walkers and dead men surrounds the Fist of the First Men as Sam hides, watching in horror.
