In Tumbleton, Ormund Hightower quarters his army on the town's smallfolk. A soldier assaults Kat, Ser Hugh Hammer's wife, but her brother fights him off, and Ormund has the man punished for violating guest right. Daeron learns that Ormund intends to make him king, and Ormund forces the boy to prove himself by executing Kat's brother. Aegon and Larys come upon Sunfyre's corpse, which Aegon mourns, then reach Rook's Rest, now overrun with refugees, where they are put to cleaning latrines; Aegon protests and is forced to humiliate himself. Criston and Gwayne arrive at Harrenhal to find Vhagar's nest empty, and Alys tells them Aemond is gone. In King's Landing, Alyn informs Rhaenyra that Corlys has sailed to hunt down the Triarchy's remnants, and Orwyle cautions her against removing the High Septon.
On Mysaria's counsel, Rhaenyra names Torrhen Manderly Master of Coin so the blame for the city's empty treasury falls on him, and sends Hugh to keep watch on Tumbleton. Ulf tells Rhaenyra that the smallfolk are spreading rumors of her children's illegitimacy, and she orders the City Watch to find those responsible. After collecting gold from Jeyne Arryn, Daemon is led by Caraxes to Rhaena and Sheepstealer; he tries to ease Rhaena's guilt over Jace's death, but she flees. Back at court he presents the head of a man he claims was Sheepstealer's rider, though Rhaenyra remains dissatisfied. Alicent discovers that Helaena is pregnant.
