Sam, Gilly and her son arrive at the Wall. Hiding in a tower during a thunderstorm, Bran discovers a new gift, entering a panicked Hodor's mind to keep him from revealing their hiding place to the Wildlings below, who unbeknownst to them include Jon. Facing his harshest test yet, Jon refuses to murder a farmer, whom Ygritte kills, and is suspected of remaining loyal to the Night's Watch; Bran wargs into Summer to save him, and Jon kills Orell before escaping, leaving a furious Ygritte behind with chief Tormund. Osha takes Rickon and his direwolf, Shaggydog, to the Last Hearth to seek shelter with House Umber, while Bran, Meera, Jojen, Hodor and Bran's direwolf, Summer, plan to go beyond the Wall to find the Three-Eyed Raven. With their mercenary army having defected, Yunkai agrees to Daenerys's demand to release all of its slaves.
Robb presents himself to Walder Frey and apologizes for reneging on his marriage pact; Walder appears to accept, and Edmure marries Roslin Frey, Walder's sole pretty granddaughter, joining House Frey with House Tully. After the newlyweds leave the feast, Walder's men suddenly attack the guests, murdering the Stark men along with Talisa and Catelyn, while Roose Bolton, who had secretly made a deal with the Lannisters, betrays and kills Robb. Catelyn's uncle, Ser Brynden "Blackfish" Tully, survives, having excused himself from the feast just before the slaughter. The Hound and Arya arrive at the Twins during the massacre, and he carries her to safety.
